Project overview
Scope of work
The client operates a fleet of electric scooters and electric cars serving urban commuters in Ho Chi Minh City. Before the project, rides were booked mainly through a call center and chat groups, dispatchers had to phone each driver to ask where they were, and every vehicle's battery level was recorded across several different spreadsheets.
The goal was a platform made up of a rider app, a driver app and a web-based dispatch dashboard: shorten matching times, move entirely to cashless payments, and turn the emissions saved into a number riders can see after every trip.
Challenges
Battery-aware ride matching
An EV can't take every ride: the system has to weigh trip distance, remaining charge and the distance to the nearest charging station before assigning a driver.
Constant location updates
Hundreds of vehicles sending coordinates every few seconds can easily make the dispatch map laggy, slow and bandwidth-hungry without a sensible sync mechanism.
A CO₂ figure people can trust
Emissions savings need a transparent calculation method that stays consistent across vehicle models, so both riders and corporate partners can rely on it.
GREEN TECH's solution
GREEN TECH built the rider and driver apps from a single Flutter codebase, connected to a Node.js backend running on Google Cloud. Vehicle locations are pushed through a real-time channel and cached in Redis; only significant changes are written to PostgreSQL, reducing write load and storage costs. The matching engine scores each vehicle on distance, battery level and charging schedule, while emission factors are declared explicitly for each vehicle model so every CO₂ figure can be traced back to its source.
Key features
Live dispatch map
Dispatchers track the entire fleet on one screen, filter by status, battery level and area, and can assign rides manually when needed.
Cashless payments
Riders pay with e-wallets or linked cards; e-invoices are sent automatically as soon as the trip ends.
CO₂ report after every ride
Each trip shows the estimated emissions avoided compared with an equivalent gasoline vehicle, added up month by month in the rider's profile.
Battery and charging management
The driver app prompts a recharge when the battery drops below a set threshold and suggests the nearest station, reducing rides canceled mid-route.

App rating
After three months in operation, dispatchers rarely need to call drivers to confirm their location, and rides canceled because of flat batteries have dropped markedly. The cumulative CO₂ report became a differentiator when the startup worked with companies wanting to transport their employees by greener means. An architecture that stores only the data that's truly needed also kept cloud costs growing far more slowly than the number of trips.
