Project overview
Scope of work
The provider had spent many years running in-person skills training for businesses. As its clients moved to flexible ways of working, demand for online learning grew quickly, but off-the-shelf tools didn't give each company its own learning space, learning paths and reports.
LearnLeaf was shaped as a multi-tenant SaaS platform: every subscribing company gets a learning portal with its own branding, HR teams assign learning paths and track progress themselves, and learners have an AI assistant that answers questions based on the course materials.
Challenges
Isolating tenant data
Dozens of companies share the same infrastructure, yet their HR data and learning results must be kept completely separate.
AI that stays in scope
The assistant must stick closely to course content, say clearly when it doesn't have the information instead of guessing, and never expose materials between companies.
Paths matched to each learner
Learners differ in role and skill level; a one-size-fits-all path bores those who are already proficient and overwhelms newcomers.
GREEN TECH's solution
We designed a multi-tenant architecture with access control enforced at the data layer in PostgreSQL, NestJS handling the business logic, and Next.js powering both the learner portal and the admin panel. The AI assistant uses a retrieval-based approach: it only searches for answers in the lesson library of the right company and links to the relevant lessons. Placement assessment results drive learning path recommendations, while Redis caches frequently asked questions to cut down on model calls — delivering faster responses and saving compute costs on Google Cloud.
Key features
Personalized learning paths
A placement assessment identifies strengths and areas for improvement, then recommends a sequence of lessons suited to each job role.
Question bank and quizzes
Generate randomized tests by topic and difficulty, grade them automatically and record completion for learners who pass.
Course-specific AI assistant
Answers questions at any hour based on course materials, citing the source lessons so learners can check for themselves.
Reports for HR
Track completion rates and scores by department, and export periodic reports to support competency reviews.

Companies onboarded in year one
In its first year, LearnLeaf was adopted by 18 companies for their internal training programs. Learners complete more courses thanks to paths that match their level, and instructors have more time for in-depth coaching instead of answering the same basic questions again and again. The multi-tenant architecture lets the training provider onboard a new client after a single configuration session, with no dedicated infrastructure required.
