Scope of work

The company provides lawn mowing, pruning, fertilizing and garden cleanup for townhouses, villas and landscaped apartment complexes. Staff schedules were planned in spreadsheets, customers often called to ask “when will the gardener get here?”, and feedback after each visit was hardly ever recorded.

Unsure whether customers were ready to book services through an app, the company chose to go step by step: launch an MVP to validate demand with a group of regular customers, then use real-world data to grow it into a full app for both customers and staff.

Challenges

01

Validate before investing big

With a limited early-stage budget, the team had to pick just the few core features customers would genuinely use and be willing to pay for.

02

Packages that resist standardization

Every home differs in garden size, plant types and condition, so showing a fixed price right in the app was far from simple.

03

Sensible staff tracking

Customers want to know where their gardener is, but location sharing has to be limited to working hours to respect privacy.

GREEN TECH's solution

GREEN TECH started with a Figma prototype and tested it with real customers before writing any code. The MVP, built with Flutter and Supabase, covered only package selection, booking and payment, and launched after 8 weeks. Usage data showed that customers cared most about when the crew would arrive and how the work turned out, so the expansion phase focused on staff tracking, before-and-after photos and service reviews, along with a Node.js service that coordinates schedules across crews. GitHub Actions automates testing and releases, letting a small team ship app updates every week.

Key features

Area-based service packages

Customers choose a recurring or one-off package, enter their garden size and upload photos to get an estimated price before confirming.

Flexible scheduling

Pick a date and time slot and repeat it weekly or monthly; the system automatically balances schedules across staff crews.

Live staff tracking

A staff member's location is shown only from the moment they accept a job until it's completed, together with an estimated arrival time.

Before-and-after photos and reviews

Staff take photos at the start and end of each job; customers rate the service and leave feedback right after every visit.

Customers moving to recurring plans

The MVP approach let the business validate demand at a modest cost, then invest only in the features customers actually use. Calls asking about schedules dropped sharply once customers could see arrival times for themselves, and before-and-after photos provide a clear record of service quality. Many one-off customers have switched to recurring plans, creating a steadier stream of revenue for the business.
